The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies is organizing the “SERICS: Sant’Anna Research Dissemination Retreat”, a high-profile initiative aimed at fostering scientific discussion on the results and future perspectives of the SERICS – SEcurity and RIghts in the CyberSpace project. The partnership is funded through the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) under Mission 4 – Component 2 – Investment 1.3 “Extended partnerships among universities, research centers and companies for the funding of basic research projects.” The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies is a member of the partnership.
The project focuses on strengthening cybersecurity and protecting rights in the digital world.

The retreat represents one of the main dissemination activities of the project and is part of the strategic actions for enhancing, communicating, and spreading the results planned by SERICS, with particular attention to the contributions developed by the research team of the TeCIP Institute – Institute of Telecommunications, Computer Engineering and Photonics.

The initiative is organized by Alessandro Biondi, Daniel Casini, and Mauro Marinoni, professors and researchers at the Real-Time Systems Laboratory (ReTiS Lab) of the TeCIP Institute at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies.

The event aims to promote high-level exchange among experts from the research community and organizations active in the fields of cybersecurity and digital rights, encouraging in-depth scientific discussion and fostering new synergies in the cybersecurity sector.

A residential setting for intensive scientific exchange

The event will take place from March 17 to 20 at Borgo di Cortefreda (Chianti), a relais located between Florence and Siena and equipped with facilities for plenary sessions and working groups.
The residential format allows participants to share both formal and informal moments, fostering the development of new collaborations and continuous discussion even outside scheduled sessions, in line with best practices for research retreats.

Program: plenary sessions, working groups, and strategic roadmaps

The SERICS Retreat is designed to stimulate in-depth debate on the scientific and technological results of the project, with particular attention to the contributions developed at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies. Planned activities include:

  • Plenary talks dedicated to the results achieved by the SERICS community and by related international initiatives
  • Thematic small-group sessions to address open problems, identify new challenges, and develop future collaborations
  • Open sessions on roadmaps and strategic priorities, aimed at defining a shared vision for future activities
  • Informal exchange moments, typical of the retreat format, to encourage deeper dialogue among the researchers involved

A European audience of cybersecurity experts

Around 20 European cybersecurity experts from the research community and organizations active in cybersecurity and digital rights will participate in the workshop.
The presence of speakers with such profiles is considered strategic for:

  • strengthening the international visibility of SERICS
  • disseminating the project’s results within a highly specialized scientific community
  • promoting new synergies among research, innovation, and digital security policy

A strategic initiative for SERICS’ scientific and institutional impact

The organization of the SERICS Retreat is part of the project’s key actions to broaden the dissemination of its results, consolidate the partnership’s position within the European landscape, and promote dialogue among experts and high-level stakeholders.

The SERICS Retreat therefore represents an important opportunity to strengthen the project’s scientific and institutional impact, contributing to the creation of new collaborations and to the definition of future research actions in the field of cybersecurity.
