Four distinguished faculty members from the RETIS laboratory at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna—Giorgio Buttazzo, Alessandro Biondi, Daniel Casini, and Luca Abeni—have been recognized in the prestigious “World Top 2% Scientists” ranking compiled annually by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier-Scopus.
This inclusion marks the seventh consecutive year on the list for Giorgio Buttazzo and the third consecutive year for both Alessandro Biondi and Daniel Casini—with all three improving their rankings from last year. Luca Abeni newly joins the ranking this year, further expanding the laboratory’s representation.
The recognition highlights their continued excellence and outstanding contributions to real-time embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Their groundbreaking research has consistently established them as leaders in their respective disciplines. The faculty members also play an integral role in Department of Excellence initiatives funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR).
The Stanford ranking evaluates over 100,000 scientists across multiple disciplines, primarily by analyzing citation metrics and scientific impact from the Scopus database. Their presence and continued upward trajectory on this list underscore the global impact and high quality of research at the RETIS Lab and the TeCIP Institute.
